Since I've come to Sheffield I've been forced to start using Spotify. Not that thats a bad thing at all, its working very well so far. I've had it on my laptop since early days because I liked the concept, but never really used it because if I wanted music I could easily download it and have it on my I-pod too. Now that downloading isn't possible Spotify has become my new best friend. In the last few days I've been listening to Bunny Wailer, Example, Jay-Z's and The Crib's new albums, and Boys Noize as I missed them the other night. But by far my favourite spotify discovery has to be Miike Snow.
When I tell you they're a Swedish band you may immediately think to "Peter, Bjorn & John" who are good, don't get me wrong, but Miike Snow are simply a level above. They sound more diverse, slightly more electronic, and much more relaxed thanks to vocals and chilling beats. I love them already after only a day of listening to their album on repeat while I do uni work. They are everything Deepest Blue should have been, but with a special Scandinavian twist which has given them a certain edge. Listening to them now its impossible not to vibe to, my feet are tapping, my head is nodding.. its great. Also for any fellow students (still feels wrong calling myself a student!) reading this, Its very good background music to escape from the mundane silence or upstairs's bassline/movement that may come with work. Their best known song so far is "Animal" which has a great Fake Blood Remix which I randomly already had on my I-pod. I need more Fake Blood stuff, I can't believe I only have two songs! ![]()
They're playing Warehouse Project as part of the Eat Your Own Ears night with Jack Penate, Maps, Paul Epworth and Rob Da Bank in a few weeks which would be good to get to (and probably be a good night sober!) had I not just made my pledge to not go back to Manchester for a while.
Oh well. Miike Snow's self-titled debut album (released this year) is out now and I would very highly reccomend it, even if you're just going to do what I do and look on Spotify. ![]()

PS: Just found out they wrote "Toxic" by Britney Spears. Now I like them even more! Individually the three of them have also produced albums by Daniel Merriweather, Vampire Weekend, and they share a label with Major Lazer who I am already a fan of.
