I got back from Prague last night. Its an amazing place and really nice city but the whole time I just wanted to come home.. I have spent 5 days at home in the last 5 weeks and I missed my mates, my bed, Sky Sports News, English Papers, my phone ringing, just loads of trivial stuff.
To get to Prague and back again we had connecting flights which went via Zurich and now I really want to visit/live in Switzerland for a bit. Tax advantages aside, its so picturesque, rolling hills and countryside mixed with big green forests, from the air it looked amazing.
We were staying in the K&K Central Hotel which was really nice (4*'s!) and was a converted theater which was pretty cool. It was in a really good location, a 5 minute walk from Wenceslas Square and a short distance from King Charles Bridge. After we arrived we were all pretty tired so we went for a meal and that was all. The meal was incredible though, it was in this restaurant really close to the hotel and the food was the best I'd ever tasted. I had a beed tartar to start with which was nice, followed by a chicken risotto which was so moreish and tasted incredible. Washed it down with some Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell which over the course of the holiday fast became a favourite of mine and I'm going to see if anywhere near me serves it because it was so good!
On the first day we did LOADS of walking and went right through the old town. Wenceslas Square, King Charles Bridge (famous from Kanye West's "Diamonds Are Forever Video"), right up to the castle and what I assume was a cathedral at the pinnacle of the city. The architechture on the way was amazing, and when we got there the view back down over the city was incredible. We headed round, past the city's Loreto college (which my mum wanted to visit because my sister goes to one in Altrincham) and through the park and we got the view that was the photo in my Pre-Prague post which was pretty cool. By the time we got back down to the hotel everyone was wrecked. It was my dad's birthday so after we went to the theater to see a Blacklight Production of Colour Dreams of Dr Frankenstein (good but impossible to follow as it didn't have a script and was all musical. Aimed at children, I don't know why my mum booked it for us..) he made the restaurant choice and we ended up eating in an Italian restaurant which looked a lot better than it actually was, outside in a square with torches and umbrellas. My chicken + chili pizza did little to impress me.
Next day I had a lie-in before we did what every tourist must do in Prague, the boat trip. It was 2 hours and didn't have any commentary so was very relaxed, I was nearly falling asleep! We got to see everything from a different view, and got a good view of all the amazing architechture, including the incredible "Dancing Haus". After the boat trip we headed to a Shopping Mall which was so British I couldn't believe. It had a Topman, Debenhams, even a Marks & Spencer!! We went back to the hotel and ended up eating in a reccomended restaurant across from the hotel, The Hybernia. I had some Czech Cuisine, wild Boar in some sauce which again I wasn't too impressed with. It was certainly better than the lunch I'd had at the hotel though, £12 Scampi which was basically prawns on Chinese Leaves with cabbage. I only liked the prawns so could only eat them.. there was only 4. Not good!!
After the meal we headed out to another Blacklight Theater Production, Cats. It was the worst theater experience of my life by far. It was basically in an upstairs room of a building with a tiny stage, Grown men and women squealing "Raawwwrrrrr" at every oppurtunity was bad enough, but then all of a sudden it became a hand-puppet show which again was impossible to follow. It was again aimed more at children, so there was loads of them in the audience which made what happened next so funny and surprising. In the middle of the play everything stops and a scene from the start of Pulp Fiction starts playing, when the British guy and his girlfriend attempt to rob everyone in a diner.
Straight away I was in uncontrollable hysterics, it was incredible. In no way did it fit with the story, there was no robbery, no police cats or anything. It was insane. What made it worse was we were the only English people in there so we were absolutely wetting ourselves and no-one else seemed to understand what had just happened! It convinced me that whoever wrote the play didn't speak English either, which had become a sneaking suspicion after all the cats had repeatedly professed their love for.. cheese?!?! I'm sad I will never get that hour of my life back.Man: Everybody be cool, this is a robbery!!
Woman: Any of you fuckin' pricks move and I'll execute every one of you motherfuckers!! Got that??!!
Next day I was so tired, we headed to the park in the afternoon and had a relaxing last day. I fell asleep on the grass for a bit and finished a book for the first time in years (Factory:The Story Of The Record Label - Really good, I'd recommend it.) In the evening we headed back to the restaurant from the first night which again was good, and the next day we packed and travelled home which was extremely tiring.
All in all it was a good family holiday by our standards. They are usually really tense and while this had its moments it turned out pretty tame, even though my sister was being a spoilt brat to my dad all the time. I hate her for that. She's so arsey about so many little things, and I had to share a room with her which was a bit of a joke (I'm 18 and she's 14, we said we wouldn't have to do it again but did.. not a good combination) and I can't stand her now after the holiday, but I won't waste time going into details. Prague is an amazing city, the architechture is incredible, and bohemian culture is seeping out of every corner. The people are brilliant and all speak fantastic English, and I would definitely like to go again in a couple of years on my own or with friends really because I didn't get to discover any of the nightlife its starting to get famous for. Prague is wicked.

my brother used to be a total prick to my dad on holidays when he was that age, looking back he was horrible, made my dad cry once he was that rude and ungrateful.
