Its 3AM and I have just got in from what has been my first gig in quite a while, but easily one of the most impressive I've seen. Incredible stuff.
Me and Dec tonight headed into Manchester to see Delphic play at their single launch party for "Counterpoint". It was all a bit up in the air until Thursday really because the venue changed, and I wasn't meant to be going with Dec but someone else who pulled out.
Originally, as it says on the ticket, it was meant to be at The Chapel in Fallowfield, which is a new music venue I'm told is in a rennovated church, but a couple of days ago it was moved to popular scenester Manchester landmark, Affleck's Palace, or more specifically, Blink, a club/venue in its basement.
I drove us in (no drinking so I can get some work done tomorrow and can save some money for next weekend) and we went into a bar opposite Affleck's for a drink before we went into Blink. When we got into Blink we began to think what a mistake it was, it was absolutely dead and there were a few real weirdo's in there. It was quite a good space though and there was no way we were going to leave without seeing the band so we stuck it out and sat on some tables just talking passing the time for about an hour and a half. Slowly the place had filled up without us noticing, and then this group of trendy guys and girls all hit the dancefloor at once and were all wicked dancers to this amazing DJ (Indie-dance sort of stuff.. LCD Soundsystem and loads of remixes) and suddenly we had a party on our hands.
When the band came on everyone stopped and the whole place was watching them. It was absolutely rammed where we were on the dancefloor by this point.
Delphic played for about 45-60 mins which was longer than I thought they would. I only knew Counterpoint but all of their other songs were really good aswell which was a real surprise.
There was a load of press at the front taking photos which was surprising given the small venue.. they were all NME/BBC no doubt, they have suddenly discovered Delphic and have them as their new hype band (particuarly in NME) with Zane Lowe especially waxing lyrical about them which to be honest has left me a bit gutted. Part of me wanted this band to remain undiscovered so I could enjoy them in tiny venues and without the NME wanking over them like they do with oh so many bands. Oh well.
The band finished off at 1.15 and most people left after that as did we, I drove back, dropped Dec and saw a mate walking so took him home, then another mate drove past me on my way home so called him and spoke to him for like 20 minutes on speakerphone until I made it back. I'm now lying awake with my ears ringing (The speakers there were incredible, and it was really loud even for a club before the band came on) and a kind of.. awe about me. They really were incredible tonight, brilliant to watch.
I cannot wait to see them again at Creamfields! (and hopefully a little sooner!!
) Also I will try and get some friends to come with me on a proper night out to Blink because it was a really good club before they came on and would be mint with more people I know!
I took this with my camera, I don't know what song it was, I'd never heard it before, But I just felt compelled to video what was going on, for about a minute it was like that and it was absolutely brilliant.. I can't really put into words what it was like..videoing it just seemed the best thing to do. The lights were incredible, the music was great.. and the crowd were all silent watching this spectacle.
This was the first part of Counterpoint, their final song. I don't know quite why its so quiet on this video in comparison to the last one, and its kind of haunting watching again because I think there must have been a girl near me singing the first few lines.. it sounds like a the guy has a girls voice!
