I always haven't liked snow.. Its just too cold. I don't get the appeal of chucking it at people and getting my fingers so cold that they hurt. Anyway, now I hate snow.. frost etc even more after this morning!
I was driving in to college, the normal route, it was all fine. I dropped my sister off and was 5 minutes away from college when a mate rang me. His regular lift wasn't coming because he stayed somewhere after last nights superbowl (more on that later) and he was stranded at his.. I was the closest so didn't mind going to get him. I said to him to wait at the bus stop on Shaftsbury (big main road near his) because I didn't want to go onto the estate because it was busy, snowy and icy so a bad combination. Anyway after 5 minutes of waiting a couple of buses had come and it was a bit dodgy me waiting on half the bus stop so I did move onto the estate, and Conor (friend) was sprinting up the road. I pull over, he gets in, and I take the next right. I'm about to do a U-Turn but theres a car coming so I can't, I carry on anyway as this road I'm on as it takes me back onto Shaftsbury which is what I need.
I wasn't going fast (about 15mph) but as I'm turning the corner we started skidding. I braked, and turned the wheel but it made no difference and we mounted the curb and hit a lamppost. The post was an old style concrete one so it was really brittle and was absolutely destroyed by the impact. It fell down into the road, which is lucky as if it had fallen back on us we would've been in trouble. My bumper was hanging half off, numberplate and badge snapped.. radiator bent so the coolant is leaked all in the road. A woman from the house next to the post came out and took us in for a cup of tea. She was really nice about it, really nice act of kindness.. her neighbour then knocked on because we were blocking her drive. I moved the car.. it worked and everything but no radiator means I can't drive it far so we left it there and called my dad. The woman told us we "HAD" to report the lamppost (wrecked) to the council and gave me a funny look which I really didn't need.. then another guy came out and said he'd made the police aware of what had happened (they ended up calling my house phone about an hour later). I can guarentee you if I had been a bit older he wouldn't have felt the need. That annoyed me a bit.
Anyway my dad came, we got a council number off an elderly woman who came out to see what the fuss was about. We drove into Hale (5mins away) and found a garage. We gave the guy the keys, he's going to pick it up and report back.. neither me, Conor or my dad have any clue as to whether its written off, and the mechanic couldn't tell us until He'd seen it himself so I guess I'll know later.
But yeah, my logic is because of this something good HAS to happen today/this week. Its been Britain's worst snow in 18 years aswell so this has probably happened all over the country.. just feel a bit of a dick because mum and dad both told me to take extra care on side roads, and I honestly was but this happened. Also, because my insurance runs out in April and I've already had a big claim from before I'd passed (my dad was in car and I was insured.. had a provisional) it could well be the end of my time on the roads until after Uni which I will be absolutely gutted about because it really has changed my life and improved social life, getting to the gym and saved money on the rip off bus club we used to have to pay into. Time will tell!
Superbowl last night... wow! I only watched the first 2 quarters but it was quality.. I was just too tired to watch the whole thing. That touchdown at the end of the 2nd quarter.. an interception and run the length of the pitch to score in the last 18 seconds. Incredible. Bruce Springsteen and the East Lake band just left me cringing.. I didn't like that.. and all the fans on the pitch going mental for it.. Americans are strange lol. Still gotta love the superbowl though!
