Heroes

by IgorAkineev @ 26. Sep 2007 - 10:49:37 pm

Is so, so good. Im totally hooked. I've just watched the BBC double bill (missed the sci-fi UK showings so havent seen the rest of the series) Nialls got it all on DVD but i really dont want to borrow it, im enjoying it too much! Its something to really look forward to over these next few weeks.
My favourite has to be Hiro Nakamura, he really makes me laugh. My least favourite.. probably..

Damn.. i just ruined a lot of the series.
Browsing facebook groups and the wikipedia section on heroes told stuff i shouldnt know at this point. That was stupid.
Hopefully i'll forget about it.. cant beleive i've just done that!

Busy as a bee!

by IgorAkineev @ 20. Sep 2007 - 09:07:14 pm

Since my last post its been really REALLY eventful.

I went to a gig on Tuesday night at Academy 3 with a friend, "Does It Offend You, Yeah?" awful name for a band, but they were amazing.. really a huge surprise.
I knew nothing about them, but went with my friend because he wanted to go, because he thought it'd be a crazy gig. It was full of people about 16 or younger.. i got told off by a 14 y.o. for not going crazy for the support band.. it was the most surreal experience ever.
But yeah, i'd heard nothing by them but i was right at the front going crazy with the rest of them. We went to the afterparty next door, although it wasnt really much of a party.. haha. And i spoke to the support bands who were also both amazing.. We Smoke Fags and Auto
All the bands had a techo feel to them.. i really need to get to more gigs like that. It was crazy.

This whole last week has been crazy. My social life is wicked and i have a good balance and am keeping up with school aswell so im quite pleased. BUT over three recent nights out i have spent £80. Thats £80 in about 5 days. It cant go on. Thats why i've started job hunting. I've applied to a hotel down the road from me, and WHSmith, Debenhams and Build A Bear Workshop in Warrington.. hopefully one of them will turn out good. Hopefully Debenhams or the hotel!

Back to music.. i've downloaded We smoke fags and El Policia who are a band from a rival school who sound like the strokes and are amazing. They're as good as Cajun Dance Party were when they were that old in my opinion.

Today my dad's letter finally came through saying his request for early retirement on the grounds of sickness has been accepted. Im really happy for him as he did try to get back to work, but he couldnt. He deserves his retirement.. and i will enjoy having him around more now. The money he'll get is enough aswell.

Im donating loads of clothes that dont fit to Asylum seekers in Liverpool through school so went clothe shopping tonight with my mum and got some wicked stuff.
In other news, im getting a new phone because i smashed the screen in Knutsford at the weekend, and i have a strained tricep so am not playing rugby this weekend.

Life is pretty jampacked at the moment!

My Weekend.

by IgorAkineev @ 17. Sep 2007 - 06:51:53 pm

It started badly, we lost at rugby to MGS, the first time the 2nd XV had lost in 2 years. We just didnt turn up at all, i got on for longer than last week though which was good. That was the only positive to take out of it though for me really. Shocking game.
Out in the Knutsford area from then on.. trains buses taxis.. seriously expensive. Cant wait to drive!
This party we went to was in Taberly? It was incredible, an 18th, so £300 worth of booze provided, food, and music. We knew basically no-one there which was good in a way because no-one cared what anyone thought! But also bad because some people were gimps. I dont understand why you'd give someone a hard time, and be a a knob to someone you dont even know. Whats there to gain?
I didnt know the guy who's party it was but was talking to him at the end and he seemed like like a fine chap..

Next day i went to the pub on my own to watch city. Was feeling rough so it was just cokes, got talking to some old guys who'd been watching Gaelic football but had to change for city. They were united fans. Was great to see their faces when we won and went back above them in the league. Michael Johnson is becoming a hero, saw him in Manchester the other week.. my claim to fame!
I also saw him before he made his debut in the trafford center in ZaraMan but i dont really like going up to famous people.. they're not that interesting afterall! Only human!

That night i went out to a private party at a venue, knew a lot more people at this one.. but never really spoken to the hostesses. I got in on Ni's plus 5 and was a good night in the end.

I dont understand why if you're hung over, drinking makes you feel better. If anyone could explain that.. haha

Was a great weekend for me, made up for last one.
A lesson learnt for this weekend is to have a bit of arrogance and go on a hunch. Putting yourself out there and turning up to these sort of events has never ended badly.. putting yourself out there in general is good.. helps confidence and makes things happen. Brilliant.
:D

Routine

by IgorAkineev @ 13. Sep 2007 - 09:46:40 pm

It isnt half boring is it??!!
Getting up early, going school, coming home and going to sleep early.. boring!

Absolutely nothing of interest has happened, or anything worth noting in the last 6 days. This is just so no-one thinks i'm dead! haha!

Nosebleeds & Board Games

by IgorAkineev @ 09. Sep 2007 - 11:48:54 am

So i went to the rugby meeting yesterday and after probably the only de-motivating team talk I've ever been to (bored everyone to death) i got told i would be sub. I was really happy when i heard this, as i really wanted to be involved, and i thought that by forgetting my kit on Thursday i'd missed my chance for this Saturday.
Because of the rugby match i didnt go out on Friday night, and tried to keep it a reasonably early night so i'd be fresh and whatever. Thinking back i dont think i ever could have been fresh for an 8.15 meet at the bus station. Everyone were zombies, it was that early.
We arrived at Merchants Taylors and did a bit of a warm up before the game which got everyone's heads on. 2nd XV is a taken a lot more seriously by the majority of players i noticed. Surprisingly there wasnt a minute's silence, and then we went ahead with an early try. We kept that lead until halftime, when some changes were made to the front row. Sir asked me where i played, "Second row isnt it Dan?" but i played prop last season. He then said i couldnt play there because my build had changed over summer. Damn! That means i'll hardly get any minutes this season.. 1st and 2nd team 2nd rows are amazing, theres loads of them aswell. I was the last sub to go on, replacing Biesty only when his boot sole snapped. I was hoping to get on a bit sooner, but there was nothing i could do.
Straight away, at like the first rook there was i got an arm to the nose, and had blood gushing from my nose for the rest of the match. I had to keep wiping it on my shirt, it was the worst nosebleed I've had but it wasnt painful or worth anyone's concern, it was just a bit of a nuisance. I think i did OK overall, was getting stuck in, i nearly scored on the break after being support for our flanker who dodged about 3 tackles but i got taken down by the last man. I won a lineout for our team aswell without being lifted which was good. I'll get better and more confident with more games and training sessions.

When i got home i was hoping on going out but i fell asleep on the sofa, and when i woke up had missed England football and rugby games. Micah Richards played amazing i hear, and his goal was good (I saw it on the news) Wright-Phillips (England) and Steven Ireland (Rep. Of Ireland) scored aswell, while Nedum Onuoha also scored the night before for the U-21s showing just how good the City academy is these days! I was talking with Sam W (city seasoncard holder) whilst on the bench and me and him are going to go together to City V. Norwich in the Carling Cup.

So anyway, when i woke up i had no missed calls and was still a bit tired so decided to stay in, so me and mum and dad had a game of monopoly which was fun. Haven't done that in years.

Today I've got some history reading to do, and we'll probably finish off the Monopoly game but thats about it. I wonder if you can play monopoly online.. or Risk?

It Saps The Life Out Of Me!

by IgorAkineev @ 06. Sep 2007 - 09:23:04 pm

Today and yesterday the day at school has just drained me completely, so when i'm home i do absolutely nothing of any significance. Tonight was better than last night though, i got some cheques for schoolbooks sorted out, got a gumshield, and tuned my bass guitair again and spent some time on that.

Today i progressed on it quite a bit in about 20 minutes and am now on track 9 of the CD (was on #7 before!) I'm doing it in frequent short bursts as reccomended by the book, that instead of doing massive long sessions which will leave me frustrated, going nowhere fast, and take away my enthusiasm. Its working.

Im going to print off an arctic monkeys tab in a second, and then take it upstairs and have a one-man bass party.. should be fun!

I forgot my kit for rugby today so now i'm really not sure if I'll get even on the bench for Saturday.. there's a team meeting tomorrow so I'll just turn up to that and see what they say. Thats what i did for tour meeting after I hadnt played for a year and nothing was said.. hopefully will have a similar outcome!

6th Form First Day

by IgorAkineev @ 05. Sep 2007 - 06:18:19 pm

It wasnt too bad at all. I wasnt nervous at all, there wasnt really any reason to be, I've been at the school for more than 5 years now so everyone is a familiar face. There are two new people to our year, one i already knew who came out with us on Monday night, and one completely new. The completely new guy shares the name of the famous Beatle, George Harrison, which gained him a bit of respect as soon as the register was read out. He seemed ok, a bit quiet but thats to be expected really.
Forms are alphabetically, I'm in Lower 6th 2, with a few of my friends. Not many, but enough. I'm already familiar with my form teacher from rugby for school, and there's a bit of mutual respect there which is good, i think he likes me, which will help because i've got him for Economics aswell.
My options this year are Economics, History, Philosophy and Politics. I had all of them today apart from Economics, and they were all really good and interesting. The lessons are different from last year, in that they seem to be much more chilled out.. everyone listens, and they appear to pass quicker. Maybe people's attention will wain in the future but i kind of hope it doesnt because today was a bit soothing for me! Hahah!

I had my first rugby training session in about 5 months, which was good. We were all pretty unfit so everyone got really put through their paces and i feel really well worked from it. Im planning on really trying for the rugby this year, and will hopefully be a regular on the 2nd XV. Our first match is on Saturday, but hopefully there'll be a couple more training sessions before it. The match is against Merchant Taylors from Liverpool, and there's going to be a minute's silence for their head coach who drowned in a white water rafting accident on their tour to Australia over summer. At another school from Macclesfield a boy was killed in Argentina when he got hit by a car. We're going to South America on tour ourselves in summer.. hopefully none of that happens to us..

Tonight i've already bought two books off Amazon, they were recommended to us by our History teacher for some background reading, which is something he said we really needed to do if we wanted to get As. Normally i wouldnt bother, but i want to do well to make up for getting less than predicted in my GCSEs, and sivakumar123 advised me to read a good book anyway so it all kind of fits.

Over the last couple of days i had one last night out before going back to school, and have pimped out my Ipod with about 200 new songs! Nice!

Wasted Days? Or Massive Turning Point?

by IgorAkineev @ 02. Sep 2007 - 01:47:57 pm

Yesterday was a strange one. I woke up and started to play the bass. In about 3 sessions now, (only 2 were any real use though) i have learnt that the way i was playing with my thumbs was previously wrong. I can alternate fingers, and know all the parts to the instrument aswell. Im on track 7 of the first CD already but am still playing open notes which is a shame. I still cant master the melodys yet.. need to keep practicing. Well, yesterday i started but after about 15 mins the remote to my stereo ran out of juice. It must have been all the rewinding and fastforwarding that did it, so i decided it was a good time to start.

The rest of the day was then on football manager, just because i didnt really want to be awake. I suppose in an ideal world i would fall asleep now and wake up Monday morning, ready to go in and finalise my courses for next year. Unfortunately life doesnt work like that so i have to wait.. which basically the football manager binge was. Waiting for the end of the day.

Anyways, last night i had a dream. And i then woke up and this dream seemed more and more like it could become reality. I met Tony Wilson in my dream (the recently deceased Mr. Manchester who made Factory Records and the Hacienda) and he had a message for me. I should start a record label! It was a brilliant dream, really vivid, so i thought.. why not? This morning i have been on Wikipedia looking at how various labels started.. Transgressive, City Rockers, Dance To The Radio etc. All of them has a good story to them, and certain morals.. and i really like the appeal of a DIY organisation like that. Thinking about it, it would be the best job in the world. I love music, any future job would definitely have to involve interaction with people.. i could go to gigs looking for bands, organise club nights, gigs for my bands, put out releases... it would be an absolute dream.
It would completely be my dream job.. and its actually the first time i have seriously thought about a future career for myself. Transgressive's first release was funded by £1000, and now they're getting offered £30,000 by major record labels to release a major label's band's material so that the band can appeal to all the indie kids and still have "DIY values" which would appeal to more people than just simply the corporate robot that we have come to expect of most major label's bands.
My dream needed a dose of reality though.. record labels today are struggling.. even the major ones are having rough times. It would be the best job ever, but there is barely enough money to go round these days. Labels with people like The Futureheads are going bust, Elijah Wood's small indie label in America is losing him $100,000 per annum aparently.. (But he spends all of his time in the shire so what does he expect)
Maybe i need a dose of reality to my plans.. but it seems like a good idea to me.. i have an idea of what to do, like start off small with pre-orders etc. and Dance To The Radio operated out of a bedroom like 3 years ago.. now they have The Pigeon Detectives doing really well in the charts, Transgressive started in 2004 and now they're doing really well for themselves.
It is an unstable industry, and im not sure which direction its heading in, with the decline of the CD single maybe i should wait it out. It wouldnt start now anyways, i am 16! But its definitely a thought for the future.
Anyways, the major turning point is.. i am actually thinking ahead, potential jobs and careers.. something I've never done before.
